Pt had two separate bunions on the same foot and the doctor had to do 2 separate procedures on each one. 28293 on one & 28296 on the other and BCBS does not want to pay for it saying the services are mutually exclusive. Is there anyway around this?

Thanks!

Both of these codes are for hallux valgus corrections...............they depict different "methods" to acheive same goal.... You can only bill for one on same toe same side. 28293 includes some work on metatarsal and 28296 includes some work on phalanx.

Did you look at 28299?
