Care is assumed to be non-MVA-related unless otherwise specified on the claim form using certain fields.

On the CMS Form 1500, only if box 10.b. is checked Yes is the care understood to be MVA-related.

On the CMS Form 1450 (UB-04), Code 01 or 02 in Form Locator (FL) fields 31-34 indicates MVA-related care.

Then, with respect to ICD-10-CM, you can use the appropriate External Causes of Morbidity code(s) to indicate the cause being a motor-vehicle accident.
