Hi I am a little weak on diagnosis coding when it comes to MVC (external cause)coding. I have a pt that hit a telephone pole and backed into them (he was the passenger). His wife was driving. I want to got with V40.6XXA because it was the passenger that got injured and his wife is the driver. I know I need another code for the Telephone poll. I was thinking V89 section but that is not specific as V406. Any help is appreciated thanks!

you will not code the telephone pole. V40.6 is a passenger injured with a collision with a pedestrian, so unless that is the story here that is an incorrect code... go to V47 and find passenger injured with collision with stationary object. This sounds like the story you have indicated. you are trying to be too specific with the telephone pole .. it is a stationary object, it matters not the exact nature of that object.
