I am trying to find information on nasopharyngoscopy vs. mirror exam. I have been all over the internet and cannot find what I am looking for. One of my ENT providers is telling me that it is acceptable to bill a comprehensive exam with a nasopharyngoscopy. Doesn't the procedure include part of the E/M billing, thus not allowing for a comprehensive code on the exam? He is saying is that if a mirror exam is attempted but cannot be done "due to gag reflex" resulting in the nasopharyngoscopy having to be done that allows the procdeure to be billed and a comprehensive exam to be billed as well. I need to find out if this is accurate. I was told it does not allow a comprehensive exam because the procedure takes away from the exam because the procedure includes part of the E&M code.
