How often is this DB updated and how do the billers on this list keep up with the changes?
We're getting denials for the wrong NDC code on J7050, whereas we've not had this problem before. Our MCR and BCBS/Ill claims are taking the hit now. Periodically we've had to update other J codes we use but always after the fact. Would like to get this right the first time rather than cleaning it up from the backside. Are these codes printed quarterly? Just trying to streamline the process so we're not always having to check more frequently than necessary.

We have had a huge issue with BCBSFL with many NDC codes to include nuclear med codes. So, we have, in the past eight months, submitted many w/o the NDC codes and they have paid with no issue. From our conversations with BCBSFL they have stated that so many injectibles are for specific procedures, etc that an NDC is not necessary for processing/paying on a claim. Hope this helps you.

Marybeth,
Really??? They are NOT necessary to process thru and will pay if they are left off? That would make it sooo much easier. This is a helpful post, although for some reason, I'm a little hesitant to omit it which provokes a followup question. What could be the recourse of the insurance company (in our case BCBS-ILL) if we did drop the NDC and still pay? Are you concerned about that at this point? That would be the question the doctor would ask...Thanks for hearing my plea for help and the only responder!
