Hi I need help with coding a chart A type 2 diabetic was admitted for wound breakdown what a protruding femur 3 weeks post op AK amputation the wound was opened in a elliptical fashion and granulation tissue back to viable bleeding skin edges were excised and the femur was shortened 2 inches and the wound was closed over drains not sure what DX and procedure codes will be never had a chart like this thanks for your help

I'm a recently certified CPC-A with no actual coding experience, but 30 years Critical Care RN hospital/ independent nursing practice - as a help, I researched your case quickly and came up with:

CPT code 84.3 for revision of the amputation stump, which includes resection of the bone itself

ICD-10 CM codes,
T87.81 first listed: admission for post op ("late") dehiscence of amputation stump
E11 additional code for underlying Type 2 diabetes

(No mention of insulin use so I didn't code that, although it would seem obvious thaat a Type 2 DM patient with amputation issues is on insulin)
