A patient was seen in the hospital for an open wound to the lower left extremity. The patient needed follow-up visits to have the wound checked and the dressing changed. I'm not sure what diagnosis code to use for the office visit. Any help would greatly be appreciated.:)
 
I would use open wound lower extremity as that is the reason they are being seen. Someone else might have different thoughts but I hope this helps.

using V code

I would use the wound code if you are still treating the wound, you can also code the VCode in addition but I would not use it as the primary DX. :o
 
there is no code for a non healing wound, and you do not use the acute wound code for aftercare encounters, you use the V codes instead and not in addition. Please read the coding guidelines for confirmation.
