Our office saw two patients A and B. Patient A was bitten by patient B. We gave patient B (source) Hep Bs and HIV (86703). We submitted the claim for patient B to Medicare with Dx V70.0. Medicare is denying 86703 as not medically necessary. Medicare is asking for documentation/more appropraite Dx. Does anyone know the ICD-9 for this visit for patient B. Our office will also submit clincal notes/medical records for pateint B. But can we submit records for patient B or is this a HIPAA violation?

Any help is appreciated.

Is patient B HIV pos? Do they Have Hep B? I agree that V70.0 is incorrect but more information is needed. Was there a wound, a bruise, contusion? You could possible use a V code for exposure you need an E code for human bite.
