Need some advice on gaining experience

I recently passed my CPC exam in November and looking for a job. It seems everyone wants experience, but how can I get experience if I cannot get a job? I have been in the medical field for 14 years. I have done billing, medical records, data entry, prior authorizations for Medicaid, but no coding. Can someone offer me advice on how to get into the coding field? I already emailed someone about project xtern and waiting on a reply. Thank you.
