We were just told about a change in billing for surveillance colonoscopies and wanted to see if anyone else has heard of this.

We were just told the following:

A patient had a screening colonoscopy in 2005, and polyps were found, then when she came in for another colonoscopy in 2010 she was billed not as screening, but as personal history of colon polyps. If no polyps were found during the 2010 colonoscopy, then the colonoscopy she has now in 2015 can be billed with a "screening for colon cancer" dx instead of the "personal history of colon polyps" dx.

Is this true, and if yes, can you direct us to supporting documentation?

thanks in advance for your help.
