Medicare is denying 95885 with 95900 and 95904. Patient had a needle emg of RT arm. A motor study was done to the Rt median and ulnar nerves. A sensory study was done to the Rt median, ulnar, and radial nerves. If we can not use 95860 what can I use as primary.

95885 is an add on code so I'd make sure you didn't bill it as the primary procedure. Also, there was a great article in the July 2012 Coding Edge magazine on billing Needle EMG with NCV that might be of help to you. Good luck. Donna

What exactly is the denial for 95885? We've had a bunch of denials on this and 95886, and just figured out this week that it was because the 95885/6 was getting pushed to a separate claim than the 95900/3/4 due to the diagnosis being different. What a mess!! But at least we figured it out and can educate the docs about it.

This is how I have been billing these & getting paid:

95885-59 x __
95886 x __
95900-59 x __
95903 x __
95904 x __

Hope this helps.

:)
