Could someone help me out here, ok it states for prolonged services for 99205/99215 for each additional 15 minutes we would code a 99XXX

Well the time frame it's giving for a 99205 is 60-74 minutes, but for the prolonged it states you would add the 99XXX after 75 minutes, the prolonged code shouldn't come into factor until 89 minutes correct? Since it clearly states it HAVE to be in 15 minutes increments.

For the new codes for prolonged services (99XXX) you will need to base the code after you have exceeded the time allotments for 99205 at 74 minutes or 99215 at 54 minutes.

To bill 99XXX for each unit the time has to equal 15 minutes. No additional units for less than 15 minutes increments.

Example

So if a new patient was seen for a total of 98 minutes; 99205 at 1 unit, and 99XXX at 1 unit (need to meet for 15 minutes for additional units)

So if a new patient was seen for a total of 128 minutes; 99205 at 1 unit and 99XXX at 2 units

So if an est patient was seen for a total of 75 minutes; 99215 at 1 unit and 99XXX at 1 unit
