Does anyone have any clarification when coding this new code for facility? EX: is a stent insertin included or coded separately? TY

C8014 was created to report cystourethroscopy, with ureteroscopy and/or pyeloscopy, with lithotripsy, including use of a suction enabled ureteral access sheath, with irrigation (if performed). There is another HCPCS code C9761 cystourethroscopy, with ureteroscopy and/or pyeloscopy, with lithotripsy, and ureteral catheterization for steerable vacuum aspiration of the kidney, collecting system, ureter, bladder, and urethra if necessary, with use of steerable ureteral catheter or suction-integrated ureteroscope. The difference between these codes is C8014 utilizes a suction enabled ureteral access sheath, versus C9761 utilizes a steerable ureteral catheter or a suction-integrated ureteroscope.

The lay descriptions of these two codes are identical with the exception of the tools used, and C9761 does include the use of a stent. There is an NCCI edit between 52332 and C9761 which can be unbundled with a modifier. The lay description of C8014 does not include the use of a stent and the official code description does not either. Due to this, I feel like it would be appropriate to code for the stent placement separately.
