Hello everyone, seeing if any anesthesia coders out there have some insight. With the new hernia repair codes, inguinal hernias with an open repair (49505) crosswalks to 00830 or 00840. Laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair (49650) only crosswalks to 00840. 00840 specifically states being for an intraperitoneal procedure. When a laparoscopic TEP is done, this code combination does not work and the laparoscopic codes do not crosswalk to any alternatives. So, would you report 49505 and 00830 for the TEP? Or we have also looked at using an anterior abdominal hernia code (49591) because it states any approach and does crosswalk to 00830.
So far, I have found some reading on the new codes but nothing specifically addressing this issue, and we do the laparoscopic TEP regularly.
Thank you for any insight!
