I need some advice this if anyone can offer feedback. If a new patients comes in for abscess and the provider decides to do and I&D is it appropriate to bill for the NP E/M and procedure if the abscess is the only item addressed?

Absolutely. You do NOT need a separate diagnosis in order to code for the E&M. As long as you have a separately identifiable evaluation and management then you can code for it with a modifier 25. I hope this helps.
