If our Dr. saw a patient in the office and did not bill any kind of office visit but did do a dictated note on the person and then a week later sees the patient again in a F/U can we bill a new patient visit on that F/U visit or do we go with an established patient?? Any thoughts or help would be appreciated on this. Thanks.

Why would they not bill for the first encounter? If they had a face-to-face encounter prior, then your patient is established regardless.

We have this same going on , our physician does a free consult then the patient comes back in and sees the Dr again for further treatement, we are billing the second visit as a follow up due to the fact that there was prior face to face time with the physician.

I don't know why we didn't bill for the first visit but in thinking this thru we have to do an established visit. It's good to know other thoughts on this. Thanks again.

Well if you didnt bill anything at all the first time to any insurance co, then that next visit would be a new patient visit because to the insurance companies that is the first time the patient is seen.
