Long time reader, first time poster. Our OBGYN clinic has been under the impression that a new provider needs to be credentialed with insurance for 6 months before taking on any of her own OB patients. However, I cannot find any documentation that supports this claim. I'm wondering if this only applies when billing a full global maternity package, as the provider would need to be credentialed for the entirety of the pregnancy. Is this an actual guideline? Thanks for all your help!

This would be a decision of the payor, but I've never heard of such a policy. Particularly with an OB group, patients often see multiple providers in the group as you don't know who will be on call when patient goes into labor. I would reach out to your payors for confirmation.
