I work for a dermatology and plastic surgery practice and we are getting a pathologist on staff next month. I have never done pathology coding and wondering if anyone has an idea of any good webinars or something that will help? I was asked to get a code list together for our new provider so a little overwhelmed. Thank you for any info!

Hi Shanny, did you ever get more resources? We use the APF Pathology Service Coding Handbook in my practice and it is immensely helpful! Best of luck!

Hi Shanny,
Creating a code list for your new provider shouldn't be difficult for you. I am betting they want to create their problem list to scroll down list for common ailments. Relax, and put a quick Excel sheet together on Melanoma, malignant skin break down (basal, squamous, in situ), hemangioma, neurofibroma, along with those other ailments such as elastosis, keratosis, hyperkeratosis, pigment ailments, actinic, and simply L98.9 when we simply do not know. There will be other codes. Take the time to research and add them to the list but this will definately provide a start for your new provider that will be super appreciative!
Thanks for listening,
