How would you code a 29 day old patient that has dx Melena K921? Would you still apply the newborn P96 code along with K921 for a 29 day old patient or just K921?

I need a newborn code P code for H57.04. Anyone?? Baby had a dilated pupil. Under 28 days old Thanks

I was not able to find any specific newborn codes for this condition as it affects the eye.

The way I would code it will be with

P96.89 - Other specified conditions originating in the perinatal period
H57.04 - Mydriasis

as P96.89 has an instructional note to use an additional code to specify the condition. We do have our guidelines that allows us to use codes from other chapters in combination with newborn codes.
