Does anyone know if the date of service 99460-99461 must be reported on the newborn's date of birth? I am seeing some records where the child is born on one day, but the pediatrician doesn ot see the baby until the next date, and bills for 99460. Any guidance?

Did the OB/GYN report 99460

So who admitted the newborn? If the physician who delivered the baby did the basic initial eval then s/he should be reporting 99460 on the date of birth. The pediatrician would then report 99462 for seeing the child on the second day.

But if the pediatrician is truly the first physician to be performing these services, then, yes the pediatrician can use 99460 even though it is the day after date of birth.

Hope that helps.

We have this situation all the time. The OB doc delivers the baby say maybe at night and then the peds doc comes in the next morning and does the initial newborn exam.
