Hi, I have a billing question regarding how to charge a patient for non covered service that was billed to their insurance.

If we have a service that is not covered by a patient insurance (non medicare)do we charge them the in network contract allowed amount for the service we have with that particular insurance or do charge them a self pay fee which can not be less then medicare allowed amount

Thank You

Non-covered

First you have to have given the patient notice that the service could be considered not covered by their insurance. Second you should have the patient sign a form stating that they still choose to receive the possible non covered service. Third it has to be the allowed amount of the contracted insurance company.

Ok that make sense. The non covered service form, is this a form we can access online or do we just have to create our own form. I know medicare has a ABN form but I believe it is only for medicare patients

Thanks
