If a baby is born today and is normal we would bill 99460 with Z38.. If later in the day into the next morning they develop symptoms that require them to be admitted to a level 2 "intensive" nursery do I bill the next days charges as "initial intensive care 99477" or "subsequent intensive care 99480" because they are over 2500 gms? Everything I am reading in the guidelines states I can bill an initial newborn HP (99460) and an initial intensive care code (99477) on the same day, but what about different days?
