Hi all,
When documentation states the nuchal cord cannot be reduced, do you code compression or no compression? The word compression does not come up as the baby is delivered through.

Many thanks!

Unless the physician specifically mentions compression, you would not code for it. Compression is very rare in any case and if it occurs during labor and delivery is most frequently caused by the cord prolapsing through the vaginal canal. It cord wrapped around the baby's neck at birth may be tight, but compression means close to strangulation and that condition, must be documented.
