Our cardiologists own their own imaging equipment. Dr A is the stress doctor, and Dr B is the interpreting doctor (we have multiple office so the POS varies). What is the proper way to bill? Right now the office is billing 78452, J2785, A9500 under Dr A and 93015 51 under Dr B. One of our coders believe this should be broken down into TC/PC and I feel like the 51 modifier is incorrect. Any help is appreciated.

Our clinic bills 78452-TC, 93017, 93016, J2785, A9500 under doctor A (doctor supervising the stress portion) and 78452-26, 93018 under Dr. B (doctor interpreting the study). The use of the 51 modifier for this scenario is incorrect. The stress portion has to be split out and not billed globally so that each physician gets credit for their portion of the work. We've undergone a TPE audit by our MAC and there were no denials for our office when billed in this manner. Hope this helps!
