We have a Nurse Educator,RN that works closely with our physicians to counsel and coordinate care for patients newly diagnosed with chronic conditions. E&M guidelines clerify counseling and Coordination of care is face to face with the physicians therefore our Nurse Educator services cannot count, physician is not always present during this portion of the E&M. Does anyone bill for this type of service and if so which codes do you use. I have a few ideas but would really like to have some input.

If the provider is not in the office area at the time of the encounter you cannot bill for it. The only other code for a non physician to use for patient education is the 98960-98962 codes.
