I am confused and hope to get some clarity. Are we able to bill 90791 when seen by a nurse practitioner for a mental health evaluation visit? Thanks

I have not seen anything that mentions the type of provider that can use 90791 other than it is the only evaluation that psychologists can use. I have seen some discussion on our MAC's website about 90791 "incident to" so I would suggest checking with the carrier you are billing to for specific guidance. Is the NP credentialed for behavioral health? The NP's at my facility generally use 90792 because the evaluation includes medical services and are credentialed so we do not bill "incident to".

Do your NP's get credentialed and have there own NPI?
