Does anyone know the guidelines for NY state for nurse practitioners? I have the guidelines from CMS but can't find anything at HHS website for NY state. I also checked the Federal Registra. I need to know if they can see new patients or only established patients. Does the physician have to sign off on every note from the nurse practitioner or only on a certain %. I know each state can be different.
Any Help Thank You-
-Edie

From my understanding, NP cannot see patients for new problems. They would have to see the MD for new problems. NP can only see est pt problems. The physician should be signing off on every note...it is the physicians responsibility to sign off on their patients charts.
