Hello,

I know if a pt comes in and sees the nurse for their usual depo shot, you bill the injection only with 96372 and J1050. Now, if the nurse has to make an evaluation of the pt say to determine if the pt is pregnant or not and this is documented correctly, would you bill 99211 with the medication?

Thank you!

The nurse is not licensed to make a determination of a diagnosis or interpret results. This would need to be performed and evaluated by the provider. If the nurse does perform a pregnancy test that shows a positive response , the patient would need to be evaluated by the provider at that time. Otherwise the pregnancy test is part of the administration of the drug, since you would not administer the drug without a negative result. so no to the 99211.
