Hi,

In the situation where a Family Practice physician who performs OB services and runs into complications and requests the OB to come in and handle their remaining care...how does the OB receive reimbursement for their services when the FP is billing for the "global pregnancy" ? It seems unfair that they would not get any reimbursement for the work they did. I am not familiar with OB specific coding and am unaware of how the OB would code for their services. Please advise.

Thanks for your help

If the FP is still seeing the patient for her pregnancy, then they bill the global and the OB is the specialist, and when this happens for our practice, we bill E/M for the visits. If the care is transferred to the OB completely, then each practice would use the correct partial global codes to cover their services.

How about if Dr. A admits patient to hospital(this is provider that has taken care of patient throughout pregnancy and after care) expecting a vaginal delivery, does fetal monitoring during labor, decides to call Dr B in for consult. Then Dr B performs a C-Section due to complications with Dr. A assisting. My question is how would this charge be billed for Dr A and Dr B?

And the 59050 is for Fetal monitoring during labor by "consulting physician"? It is suggested this be billed for Dr. A I am just having a hard time grasping this. Seeings Dr. A is the initial Doc I am just confused??? Any suggestions helpful.
