What dx codes do you use for ob patients when a pap smear is done. Lately, our lab has been sending us notifications stating insurance denied due to incorrect dx code. Our physicians have always used Z34.01 for appropriate high risk code and we never received denial notifications from the lab.

You should be linking the code Z12.4 to the order for the Pap smear - you are specifically screening for cervical cancer and that would be done if she was pregnant or not.
