Wiki OB Physician Billing

Our facility will be taking over billing for our OB physician. Since this is new to us, we have a question.

OB patient is at 32 weeks and is admitted to inpatient to rule-out labor. After monitoring for several hours, physician evaluations, and seeing if there is any progress, the physician sends them home undelivered with diagnosis of labor, ruled out.

The physician is wondering if he can bill for seeing the patient in the hospital or if this is included in the global charge associated with pregnant mothers.

Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated.

OB coding

Bill this separately and use the code for abdominal pain, pelvic. If the provider looks at the
fetal monitor strip, you can also code for the professional component of the NST.
