Hi- I wonder if anyone has insite into G0379, specifically if patients are outpatient surgery and then placed into observation status are there instances in which G0379 would be coded in addition to G0378?

G0378 and G0379

If you access the IOM manuals on the CMS web, the Claims processing manual beginning with Section 290, it will provide past and current information on billing and reimbursment for OBS. G0379 can be reported along with G0378. G0379 is reported with a unit of one if there is a direct referral for observation and G0378 is used to report the actual hours of observation care.
