I am unsure which E/M code to use. We had a patient who was admitted for observation at 11:54pm and discharged the next afternoon. The admitting doctor did not get to the hospital until 1:00 am so the notes for the admit and the discharge are on the same date of service. I believe the right code would be 99234 - 99236. Is this correct?

Your provider did his admit and discharge on the same date so yes you are correct.
