I am trying to find information on the correct way to assign the correct first listed diagnosis code for an encounter in an Occupational Medicine setting. A fellow coder has said to assign Z51.89 as the primary followed by the diagnosis code (as long as it is not an injury code). Injury code will have the D applied. My question is, is Z51.89 correct to use or is that how it was done with ICD-9 and with ICD-10 it changed to only report the condition?
