Can anyone tell me the proper way to do the following:

Our practice owns the Echo and Ultrasound equipment, our doctor simply puts on his charge sheet or EMR note Echo and when to schedule it. Isn't it true that we should have him write an order for the test? Just as if we didn't own it and he had to send the patient to another facility to have it done?

Any take on this is greatly appreciate.

The order or no order question raises it's ugly head once again. Even if you own the equipment, you need an order. We've gone round and round with this in our office and with our Compliance department. Usually Medicare only allows for no orders with screening mammos, I think. Otherwise, you need a order. No backdating of orders is allowed.
