I have a question about billing for an internal medicince doctor. If the doctor sees a patient in the office and patient needs to be admitted to the hospital and the doctor uses a hospitalist so the hospitalist would do an H&P on the patient can the Internal Medicine Doctor still charge an Office Visit (99211-99215)

I don't believe so. The highest level of service for that day should be reported. If the admit was done, that should be the only code reported for that DOS.

If your doctor evaluated the patient and referred to hospitalist for admission, you can bill the service. If your doctor is performing the admission, you would bill the admission only

Have another part of the question if the patient is sent to the hospital and goes in through the ER and is admited from there can the doctor still charge an office visit.

Hi:

In the second part of your question, the admitting doctor is only the ER physician so the office visit for your physician could be billed,

Hope this answers...
