I need help with the following scenario...

patient came in from the er and had an open finger tip fracture that had been sutured and splinted. our dr is wanting to code a fracture charge as well as the debridement code for removing a little bit of skin in order to remove the sutures. my thoughts are we are not able to bill for the debridement due to the sutures being the reason the skin was debrided off. any help is appreciated

thank you in advance

No the debridement at site of open fracture (11010-11012) would not be for removing sutures and the associated skin in the way. Its for removal of gross contamination such as dirt, rocks, glass, etc I would assume that portion was taken care of prior to splinting in the ER
