I have an opportunity to do some billing and coding for the counselors at the local
Community Resource Center for their domestic abuse clients. This would be
Medicaid clients. I'm at a loss as to how to charge for this. I can download
the software for free from the state. This would be contract work. Does anyone
have any experience with this? Any input would be appreciated. I have 11 years
coding experience at the local hospital, but this would be on my own.
Thanks!

I would ask to be paid as an independent contractor (1099), you simply submit a W-9 to the payer. It works out for you and employer form a tax perspective. Additionally, I would ask for a $1,000.00 retainer and sign a contract. Medicaid has low fees, im not familiar with reimbursements in such practice, however, I would ask for 3% of revenue brought in if you doing coding only, 4% coding+billing, 5%- coding+billing+credentialing. But, once again im not familiar with specialty. I would review current AR, days in AR, and receivables before agreeing to a rate. Hope this helps. Let me know if I can be of any help otherwise.
