Good morning,

I have a general question regarding continued treatment of Medicare patients when we have opted out of their Medicare HMO.

Long story short, we have just opted out of a couple of Medicare HMO's. The term date will be 12/31/2012. The effected patients have been notified in writing that we will no longer be participating.

If a patient elects to continue treatment, do we have them sign a private contract to continue care on a cash basis? Will we be required to file a claim with their HMO as a non-par provider? We are, by the way, still Medicare providers participating with traditional Medicare and some HMO products.

This situation feels very muddy to me. I'd greatly appreciate any advice that you can offer.

Debbie
