I am looking at possible having to code some oral surgery at my work. Does anyone have tips or where to find what type of code they use? Do they bill out on the CMS1500 as I thought this feel under medical benefits with insurance versus dental.

Thank you in advance for any help.

It depends on what work is being done, type of provider doing the work, and the location the work will be done at.

Using myself as an example:
I get root canal at the dentist's office. That's going to go to my dental insurance.

I had impacted wisdom teeth (all four, yucky), and had to go to an oral surgeon to have them extracted. This was done in an outpatient hospital setting and was billed to my medical insurance. My med insurance only covered it because of the specific circumstances; those which called for more extensive work than a dentist would typically provide. In my case, I had both professional and facility charges.
