Dear List,
I need your help on the following:
PROCEDURE: ORIF, Corpectomy and Arthrodesis. The surgeon performs and documents these procedures on his operative report. (T12-L2)
Coding:
63087 - Corpectomy (L1)
22556 - Arthrodesis (T12-L2)
22585 - Arthrodesis add'l interspace
22845 - Instrumentation (T12-L2)
22851 - Cages (L1)
22325 - ORIF (L1)
My understanding on this, is that since the surgeon took out the vertebral body at L1 by performing the corpectomy, which was where the unstable fracture was, then we cannot bill for the ORIF CPT 22325.
Please confirm or correct my thinking on this by sharing with me where I can get the official guidelines or ruling on this. Thanking you in advance for your help.
