When billing for ortho surgery and using an assistant, does the 80 go on 21141? Or does the assistant get his own code with 80? I would think the 80 is amended to the original procedure code. We're also using 21196 with an assistant. Same question as above and am I adding 51? THANK YOU!!!

surgeon gets his own codes and then you bill separately the same cpt codes then add the 80 on those codes so two separate claims

Assistant Surgeon

When billing out for the assistant surgeon, we are getting denials that some codes are not payable for assistant surgeon even with using modifier 80 and also with authorization from insurance, which I know auth is not a guerentee of payment but what other ways I can use to get the assistant surgeon paid for all the CPT codes used

WHAT Payer is it? some carriers, even tho it may be payable with cms may not be payable with that particular carrier, I know empire bluecross and oxford have specified restrictions
