Good afternoon,

My provider gave an Orthovisc injection to the RT and LT knee on the same DOS. Would it be ok to report J7324 with two units? The description of J7324 states “per dose” as opposed to “per joint”. I’m thinking it should be reported with only ONE unit only. Any input will be appreciated.

Thanks,

The dose is the standard amount injected into the joint. If 2 "vials" are used, 1 for each knee, then you will bill 2 units, as that is 2 doses. We do this with Gel-one and Supartz, which have the same "per dose" HCPCS description, with no problems.

HTH!
