Hello,
I code OPD records for a hosptial facility. ALL the CPT codes are loaded into the Chargemaster so I code NO CPT whatsoever.

Just out of curiosity is this common in other facilities?

Well, i code outpatient surgeries and in our system their is already a cpt and icd codes listed however that is only done in order to have a case for the patient in the system. As a coder i have to read the patients operative report and verify what procedures were actually done. Maybe you need to find out who is entering cpt and where are they getting that info from.

Dear Betty,

Interesting. The CPTs come from various sources, radiology, oncology and such and that is the way they want it. I often wonder how accurate they are though. It won't change here but I was wondering if this is the norm.

Thanks for the post. Sam
