PROCEDURE IN DETAIL:
The patient's chart was reviewed. After obtaining written informed consent, the patient was placed in a prone position. The area was prepped with antiseptic solution.

The patient was brought to the procedure room and placed in the prone position. A time out was performed. The back was prepped with antiseptic solution and under fluoroscopic guidance the patient's sacral ala on the left side along with the foramen at S1 and S2 were identified. 2 mL's of 1% Lidocaine was used to anesthestized the skin. A 22-gauge 3.5 inch spinal needle was inserted through the skin under fluoroscopic guidance until it touched the bone at the left sacral ala. Another 22 gauge 3.5 inch spinal needle was then inserted at the S1 and S2 lateral branches that innevate the upper portion of the SI joint, until they touched the bone in the area. Attention was then turned to the left SI joint injection where 2 mL's of 1% lidocaine was used to anesthestize the skin and then a 22-gauge 3.5 inch spinal needle was inserted and advanced under flouroscopic guidance until it was in the lower 1/3 of the SI joint on the left side. After negative aspiration, each needle was injected with 20 mg of Kenalog along with 2 mL's of 0.25% marcaine. All needles were then flushed with 1% lidocaine and then removed. Band-Aids were applied to all the sites and the patient tolerated the procedure well and was taken to the recovery area in stable condition.
