Our surgeons want to charge separately for the pain pump insertion, but the insurance companies are bundling this with the primary procedure (i.e. 27447). We have been using 62362 for the pump placement. Any suggestions on how to code this properly?

Try 37202 for the pain pump insertion with a 51 modifier, if over and above normal surgery with a letter from the Dr., otherwise included.

If you are following AAOS global services guidelines, 37202 is generally included in the main surgical procedure. However, you can bill for the pump as a supply.
