My questions is with regard to palliative care:
Are palliative care consults coded with SNF codes or are they time based?
How is it recognized as palliative care (if that even matters)? POS?

This is a unfamiliar territory for me and oddly enough, when I searched the threads I found several questions re: palliative care with no responses!

I was just under the impression that I would bill the code based on POS, NF E/M codes. I'm being told that a palliative care 'consult' can be billed and is reimbursed a certain amount...first of all most of mine are medicare and 'consult' codes are not allowed. So I'm at a loss. Is there something I'm missing?

for background: I solely bill Part B services for physicians who see patients in the NF.

Can anyone shed some light on this for me please?

Thanks!!

Have you learned anymore about Palliative Care coding since you posted this. This is something new for me as well and I would be billing for Part B services in the nursing facility.

Thanks,
Laurie
