Hello, my doc did a procedure that I need help coding on. She said it was a paracentesis but more involved: under ultrasound gained access, threaded a guidewire under fluoro, dilate the tract and the place a pigtail drain. the catheter was sewn in and stat locked and then attached to a jp drain.
Patient diagnosis was ascites.
Do we code 49083-22 or would 49406 be more appropiate? I was going with 49083-22, but we dont get paid any extra and she said this case was obviously more time, complex and devices.
