Hi Everyone,
We just took on coding pathology in our coding department. What is the average production for pathology coders? How many CPT are expected per hour? Thank you!

I'll reply here kozy
I clearly believe the radiology department took on pathology here (tell me I am wrong).
Average production isn't based on CPT assignment here.
It is 20-25 pathology accessions per an hour (mixture of simple and complex accessions for review)
Just curious, have you ever had to code malignancy from Specimen A thru Specimen P from a pathology report??
A true "whopper"? Would love your insight after reviewing the entire pathology report.

Good evening! We have different standards depending on the specialty. For surgicals, we require 50-70 cases per hour (note that’s per case not per CPT as a case could have anywhere from 1 to 30+ CPTs depending on specimens and special studies)
