Hi,
Can somebody help me out. What CPTs to be appended to the "LEFT BREAST", (NEEDLE LOCALIZATION BREAST BIOPSY) and LEFT BREAST DEEP MARGIN", (RE-EXCISION).

Hi,

It will come in 19102 series but you have not mention how the biopsy actually done was it imagine guidance or not ,or any rotational device has been used as per that you have to append appropriate cpt.

Since this is posted under the pathology forum, I'm guessing you are looking for the path code for reading the slides and not for the biopsy itself? Or did your doc do the biopsy also? Send me an email at slmathiscoding@yahoo.com and I will try to help.

A needle biopsy of the breast is coded 88305. An excisional biopsy that requires the examination of margins is coded 88307 if the need for margin exam is adequately documented. These codes refer to the pathological examination and diagnosis involved, not to the surgical procedure to obtain the specimen.
